An Analysis of Compression and Decompression Time

using Different Compression Strategies

We compare the compression and decompression time of different compression strategies (Zip and XMill) on different data formats (Binary and SOAP). XMill is a new tool for compressing XML data. The TPC Benchmark (TPC-H) is a decision support benchmark. It consists of a suite of business oriented ad-hoc queries and concurrent data modifications. The first column of the table is the query-id of TPC Benchmark. .NET turns the query result into Binary/SOAP format. We list them according to the size of the original Binary/SOAP messages. We also list the message size after compression using different compression strategies. The compression and decompression time are shown in milliseconds. The results are given below:
